One Degree Program

Supporting Crest Boys prepare for their exams

As the GCSE exams draw closer, a group of year 11 boys have been selected for additional revision sessions in Maths and English supported by the tutors provided by the One Degree Program

The program runs every Saturday, for 10 weeks from 10:00am to 5:00pm, leading up to the summer exams.  The boys enjoy working in small groups with their tutors who provide support and guidance for their revision as the exams approach.

As part of the program the boys are provided with close supervision and direction in subjects including Maths and English.  Each session the boys have an opportunity to complete exam style questions and past exam papers, tackle the hurdles of revising and processing information and completing tasks to help process and retain vital examined material as outlined in the specification.

So, what do the boys’ think of working on Saturdays?

Hanad Hussein, “the program has taught me and given me the skills required to be able to revise for all my exams at home.  I have really enjoyed meeting the tutors through One Degree”

Saran Raj, “the program has influenced me positively.  I am revising a lot more for my exams and feel a lot more confident.  I enjoy the activities and tasks we do on Saturdays”

Murtala Danyaro, “I really thought I was going to fail maths, One Degree has given me hope and self belief that I can pass my exams.  I have been given a lot of help which I am very grateful and wish the sessions on Saturdays started earlier on in the year”

Kacper koprowski, “I thought I had no chance in passing maths but this program has helped me to understand mathematical concepts clearer, maybe I now have a chance! I have enjoyed working and meeting with all the tutors”

Y11 Study Skills

On Friday 26th February and Monday 1st March Year 11 students participated in Study Skills sessions aimed at helping them to prepare for their final examinations. Presenters from 'Learning Performance' came into the Academy to lead the session in which students were taught memory skills such as Peg Words, Image Chains and Mind Maps. The sessions were very interactive and informative and the presenters were very impressed with our students. Jacob Robinson from year 11 commented 'I enjoyed the session today even though it was a whole day, I managed to stay focused. I had fun and learnt a lot of valuable new things'. Devesh Mardania also commented 'It was a very interesting session. It really tested your mind and was very challenging'. It is now up to the Year 11 students to put their new skills into practice while preparing for their exams! Ms Hill
